Watch: Anthony Foley & Munster On The 2006 Heineken Cup Final & What It Meant

11 years ago today Munster claimed their holy grail.

It was a day no Munster fan will ever forget after so many years of heartbreak. 2006 will live long in the memory as the day Munster finally made their mark on Europe by lifting the Heineken Cup.

A sea of red descended up Cardiff and took over the Millenium Stadium in one of the most joyous occassions we’ve ever had the pleasure of witnessing in rugby. It’s a moment that now feels so much more special after the untimely death of the late Anthony Foley.

Seeing Foley finally hoist the trophy was truly fitting. A guy who represented the old generation and the new, it had to be him. Munster were never going to lose that game, not on Foley’s watch.

11 years ago to the day we remember that incredible moment and a wonderful captain, player, coach, husband and father. Have a watch of this brilliant excerpt from Foley’s documentary ‘Axel’ that features a number of Munster legends discussing the magical day.
