Wales Receive Worrying Rankings News Following Wallabies Defeat

Wales didn’t have the best of weekend’s as they were thrashed by Michael Cheika’s Australia at the Principality Stadium.

Rob Howley’s men were humiliated 32-8 in a hugely one-sided affair. To make matters even worse, the heavy loss has resulted in them dropping down two places in the World Rugby rankings. This now puts Wales in real danger of ending up in a group of death at the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

The World Rugby rankings released on Monday show Wales have slid two places from fifth spot as a result of their defeat to Australia on Saturday, with All Blacks conquerers, Ireland jumping up to fifth place following their first win over New Zealand after 111 years of trying.

Argentina have risen from ninth to six spot following their 54-20 demolition of Japan in Tokyo, pushing Wales down to seventh overall. It’s extremely tight between the Pumas in sixth and Scotland in ninth spot with just 1.02 points separating four countries.

Wales (80.97points) will be looking over their shoulders at France (80.75) and Scotland (80.44) in eighth and ninth spots respectively as to avoid another potential horrible group at the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.

Scotland host Australia on Saturday at Murrayfield while France entertain Samoa in Toulouse. Wales take on Argentina at the Principality in what is now a must win clash for Rob Howley’s side.
