Video: Nigel Owens – How I Got Into Rugby
He’s the best in the world at what he does, but Nigel Owens’ route into officiating was anything but straightforward.
Owens explained to World Rugby how, as a teenager, a failed attempt at being the match-winning hero in a schools game inadvertently diverted him towards refereeing.
Speaking about that match as a youngster, Owens tells of how he missed a last-minute conversion and one of his teammates sugessted that he should take up refereeing. The next week Owens officiated some underage matches and has since worked his way up to being one of the world’s greatest referees.
