Two More Teams Tell Their Governing Body They’re Interested In Move To PRO14
Room for two more?
The newly expanded PRO14 kicks-off this evening, with new boys the Cheetahs, set to take on Ulster in Belfast.
They will be joined in a new 14-team tournament this season, along with the Southern Kings and they may be joined by two more South African teams before long.
According to Owen Slot in today’s Times, this season’s Super Rugby finalists the Lions, who are based in Johannesburg and the Durban-based Sharks, have both written to their governing body expressing an interest in following their fellow countrymen up north.
It doesn’t mention where, but one can only assume it would be the PRO14.
Their current television rights deals are up for renewal in 2020, opening window for them to make the move. Exciting times for PRO rugby.
