Twitter was left in awe on Saturday night after Dan Carter inspired New Zealand to an unprecedented Rugby World Cup final victory at Twickenham.

New Zealand became the first team to retain the Webb Ellis trophy in Rugby World Cup history with a 34-17 win over Australia at Twickenham.

Australia pushed the All Blacks hard, threatening to stage a dramatic comeback at one point with two tries after half time. However it was the influence of one man who made the difference for New Zealand in securing back-to-back World Cup triumphs: Dan Carter.

The All Black number ten was rightly named man-of-the-match as New Zealand completed back-to-back World Cup wins, thanks in part to Carter’s 19-point haul.

Spectators on Twitter were quick to hail the 33 year-old as the greatest ever.
