Mourad Boudjellal almost gave Quade Cooper the chop on Sunday.
Cooper when he initially signed for Toulon made sure a clause was inserted into his contract allowing him compete with the Australian sevens team throughout the season in a bid to gain a spot in the squad for the Olympic Games.
Following Toulon’s victory over Bath on Saturday, Cooper made his way to London to fly to Sydney to join up with his Sevens compatriots. However with both Freddy Michalak and Matt Giteau out injured, Toulon would be without a recognised outhalf for their mammoth clash with Stade Francais on Sunday.
Mourad Boudjellal threatened to cancel Cooper’s contract if he joined up with the Wallabies 7s squad. It’s now expected that Cooper will fly to Sydney after Toulon’s game with Stade next Sunday. We’re sure this isn’t the last we’ll hear of this.
