Ticket Sales For This Weekend’s Champions Cup Games Show Just How Much Europe Will Miss The Travelling Irish
The Irish province’s will no doubt be upset to not be involved in the knockout stages of Europe this season, but it looks like the EPCR will be also.
During their domination, the Irish province’s became famous not just for their display’s on the pitch- but for their unrivalled travelling support also. Never in a million years would you not see a sell-out at a semi-final, or even quarter final involving the likes of Munster or Leinster.
Judging by this weekend’s forecasts, it seems while the English and French clubs who are involved in this years semi-final’s can attract the best rugby players in the world- they cannot seem to attract the fans to support them.
The London Times have reported that a ‘poor turnout’ was expected for the semi-finals. The City Ground in Nottingham, which will host Sunday’s semi-final between Leicester and Racing 92, only holds a capacity of 30,000 and yet more than a third of tickets remain unsold.
As for tomorrow’s Wasps-Saracens match at the Madejski Stadium in reading, only 17,000 of 24,000 tickets have been sold.
