Three Top Coaches Set To Be Interviewed For Lions Job In The Coming Days

Three top coaches are set to be interviewed in the coming days for the coveted Lions 2017 head coach position.

Those three men are Wales’ Warren Gatland, Ireland’s Joe Schmidt and Scotland’s Vern Cotter. Ideally the Lions 2017 team would like to have all three men involved in some capacity but there’s only one head coach position on offer and the man chosen must sacrifice a year out from his duties with his respective national side.

England’s Eddie Jones has ruled himself out of the running after a fantastic year with England that saw them lift the Grand Slam and achieve a whitewash against Australia. This leaves Gatland as the clear favourite with Cotter and Schmidt also set to interview for the post.

Should Schmidt be offered the position he would have to sacrifice his own test series agains the All Blacks in November along with the Six Nations which is seen as a massive stumbling block for him. Gatland has already done this with Wales in the past so it wouldn’t be an issue for him. Schmidt’s former boss at Clermont, Vern Cotter is the dark horse in the race.

We are talking about interviews any time now and we want to be totally inclusive,’’ said Lions manager John Spencer

“After the various interviews, we will make a final decision with announcements in September.”
