These Rassie Erasmus Comments Suggest Murray’s Injury Is A Lot Worse Than We Thought
When Conor Murray went down early on in Ireland’s loss to Wales we knew very quickly the Munster nine wasn’t right. You could see the pain in his face as he tried to pass the ball, he simply was not right.
Amazingly not only did Murray finish the half, he came back out for the second. A few minutes later Murray was eventually taken off to be replaced by Kieran Marmion, who also took his spot in the starting line-up a week later against England.
Since then Murray has gotten back into training and was even named in the starting line-up for Munster’s Champions Cup quarter final against Toulouse, only to be removed from the squad entirely a few hours before kick-off
It appears that Murray suffered much more than a simple ‘stinger.’ Speaking at UL yesterday, Munster’s Director of Rugby Rassie Erasmus gave his thoughts on both Murray and Stander.
“When you get a stinger it does some damage. I think he did more damage intitally than everybody thought. I think the shot, the actual stinger he got, did more damage than initiallt thought there.”
“He has done a lot of work with us, and that’s why we must be careful not to get too excited. He passes well, he runs with us, he does the patterns with us and a little bit of contact here and there.”
“But I am nervous for them- they are important players,”
“It would be great to have Conor & CJ available in that match just because they are world class players. Gut feeling: I think CJ has probably got a better chance than Conor.”
When you consider the fact that Stander is apparently out this weekend against Ulster and has been seen wearing a protective boot on his ankle- it doesn’t look good for Murray.
