Running out of time.
The all new PRO14 is set to kick-off in just over three weeks time, but it seems one of the new South African teams are already in trouble. With time running out the Southern Kings are yet to finalise their squad for the competition.
They’ve lost a number of top names over the last few weeks, with with a settled group having yet to assemble for training according to SA Rugby Magazine
Star backs Malcolm Jaer and Makazole Mapimpi have signed with the Cheetahs, while forwards Tyler Paul and Ross Geldenhuys have joined the Sharks. Influential back-row Chris Cloete is set to link up with Munster, regular captain Lionel Cronjé has headed to Japan, while lock Wilhelm van der Sluys has agreed to a deal with Premiership champions Exeter Chiefs.
It also remains to be seen whether key performers Andisa Ntsila and Luzuko Vulindlu will be released from South Western Districts to form part of the Kings’ squad. Their head coach Deon Davids is said to be working furiously behind the scene to assemble a competitive squad, reaching out to see if their are players available to join the Kings on loan.
Time is running out and it looks like their squad will be hastily put together ahead of the new season.
