The Latest On Johnny’s Sextons Fitness Following Last Night’s Injury
Johnny Sexton limped off in Leinster’s draw with Castres last night leaving Irish fans worried about his Six Nations fitness.
The talented playmaker has endured a torrid time with injuries in recent months and only returned a couple of weeks back having not played since Ireland’s loss to the All Blacks back in November.
Leinster head coach Leo Cullen has revealed that Sexton will undergo a scan on his calf next week, but the initial fears are not as bad as expected.
Cullen believes that Sexton is not a doubt for Ireland’s Six Nations opener against Scotland next month.
He just had a bit of stiffness in his calf,” Cullen said
“We’ll see how he presents.
“Just a bit of tightness. But again, when he feels that, he was almost there making the call himself. And we obviously go with that. It’s obviously very early days, so we’ll see, get a scan and know exactly what extent there is there.”
When asked as to whether or not he feels Sexton is a doubt for the Six Nations, Cullen was positive.
“It’s very early days yet,” said Cullen.
“I don’t imagine so, but I don’t know. We’ll wait and see. He’ll get scanned and he has all next week and the week after before he gets into that first game so we’ll get the reports early next week.”
