The IRFU Have Made A Decision Regarding Jack Taute And Munster
Munster have received a massive boost with the news that Jaco Taute has signed a six-month contract extension with the province.
The South African has been a revelation since signing, playing a key role in their revival this season. Taute was once a again a star performer last night as Munster put four tries past Leinster in a bonus point win at Thomond Park.
Simon Zebo, Ronan O’Mahony, Tommy O’Donnell and CJ Stander all crossed for tries in a 29-17 win, that sees Munster remain top of the PRO 12.
The Irish Independent understands that the province have agreed a deal with Taute to remain and have been given approval by the IRFU who have looked favourably on their situation despite New Zealand centre Francis Saili’s return from injury last night.
An official announcement is due in the coming days
Speaking after last night’s win, Rassie Erasmus remained coy on the deal, saying there was still some ground to be covered but conceded an agreement is close.
“It’s not signed off, we’re discussing it with David (Nucifora) and Western Province. We’ve officially requested it,” he said.
“Everybody knows we’ve lost Alex Wooten long-term, we’ve lost Bill Johnston long-term, Darren Sweetnam tonight looks a little bit doubtful for us.
“Jaco has played more than 90 games at full-back and is covering bases there. It’s not signed and sealed, we still have to dot the I’s and cross the T’s before we can officially say he’s with us.
“The main thing that Jaco brings is work rate and physicality, sometimes just gutsing it out. Maybe not too flashy at times, but that’s a part he brings to the game.
“The team is young, he brings calmness and a bit of mentoring skill on and off the field which is great for the players’ development.
He’s bought into being a Munster player, he’s proud to be a Munster player.”
