Never forget where you came from.

Tadhg Furlong may have set world rugby alight in a matter of months, but the Wexford native will never forget his roots. Since bursting onto the scene against the All Blacks in Chicago, Furlong has been on a rampage, straight to the top.

He’s now become Leinster and Ireland’s first-choice tighthead and has a serious chance of become the Lions test tighthead too if he keeps playing the way he’s been playing.

Despite the dizzy heights he’s now reaching, Furlong hasn’t forgotten about his old school. In an interview with SportsJOE writer Dion Fanning, Aidan O’Brien, the deputy principal at Good Counsel [Furlong’s old secondary school] revealed that Furlong presented them with a very special gift recently.

“Tadhg’s connection to the school meant something to him and the thing that highlighted that for me highlighted that most clearly was very recently, subsequent to the series of autumn internationals when the last game was against Australia on the Saturday.

“I was walking out that door on the Monday and just as I was going around the corner, Tadhg comes towards me in a tracksuit and an old t-shirt and goes, ‘Here Aidan, just came in to give you that’.  And what he gave me was, and I just happen to have it here, was his jersey from the Chicago game.”

Absolutely top class from the Wexford native.
