Ospreys hooker Scott Baldwin was told by a surgeon that there was a chance he could have lost his hand after unfortunate accident in South Africa last month.
The Welsh international was bitten by a Lion in a freak accident and has now opened up about the incident in an interview with BBC Radio 5 Live’s Rugby Union Weekley podcast.
“The bite went straight through the other side of the hand, but I was really lucky it didn’t hit any tendons or ligaments.”
“The surgeon said it was like winning the lottery, he said it was the best possible outcome considering I had been bitten by a lion.”

Baldwin’s hand became infected after initial treatment from the team doctor, forcing him to undergo surgery twice.
“The infection was the major issue,” the 29-year-old said.
“The next day it started tracking up my arm. The surgeon said there was a chance I could lose my hand.”
Thankfully Baldwin has made a full recovery.
