Robbie Henshaw Reveals Reasons Behind His Move To Leinster

After four years with Connacht, Robbie Henshaw will move to Leinster next season.

Many have spoken out about the deal arguing the IRFU should have ensured he stay with Connacht or facilitated a move to Munster who are in more need of a quality centre- but at the end of the day it was the player’s decision and he has revealed his reasons behind the moved

At Ireland’s open training session at Mullingar RFC, on Friday, speaking to the Irish Times, Henshaw gave his reasons for joining Leinster:

“[It was] an extremely tough decision for me; a lot of lost sleep over it. It was very close in the end. Obviously I’ve been saying to myself that I’ve let a few people down in Connacht.”

Henshaw said he wanted to get the deal ‘done and dusted’ before the Six Nations but unfortunately negotiations dragged on a bit. Henshaw once again reiterated the fact that he feels like he has let Connacht down, but ultimately it was his decision and it had several motivating factors.

“It kind of was in my mind in advance that I would be letting people down. It was completely my decision. Just so people know, it wasn’t the IRFU’s decision, it was mine…

“I tried to give as much to them as I could in the last four years and I will continue to do so until the end of the year for Connacht, that’s my goal.”

“For myself, it was just a couple of personal things. My girlfriend is in Dublin and I have family in Dublin. I just feel it’s a new stage for me, a complete change for my career. There’s nothing negative at all, it’s just what’s best for Robbie Henshaw.”
