Can they do it again?

Ireland host the All Blacks this Saturday in the Aviva, two weeks after they made history in Chicago. On that that Ireland shocked the rugby world, running in five tries, defeating New Zealand 40-29

It was the first time Ireland had beaten the famous rugby nations after 111 years of trying. The heartache of 2013 lived long in the memory and on that day Ireland were out for revenge, and they got it.

What we saw in Soldier Field, was one of the most complete performances by an Irish rugby team in history. Despite a second-half comeback from the All Blacks, Ireland dug deep anf clinched the game in the final minutes thanks to a well executed try from Robbie Henshaw.

Mark Pollock, the County Down rower and adventurer, spoke to Joe Schmidt’s men prior to the game and revealed to RTÉ on Monday, the inspirational words he used to spur on Joe Schmidt’s warriors.

“History is filled with the accounts of the impossible, made possible through human endeavour,” Pollock said.

“The type of human endeavour that took people to the South Pole 100 years ago.

“The type of human endeavour that took astronauts to the moon 50 years ago and the type of human endeavour that I hope will ultimately find the cure for paralysis.

“I told them about what we were doing to try and turn the impossible possible.”

New Zealand land in Dublin this weekend, wounded and out for revenge. They’ll welcome the likes of Sam Whitelock and Brodie Retallick back to their team and will no doubt want to set the record straight. Can Ireland achieve the impossible once again?
