Ahead of the game.
Peter O’Mahony says he was hugely impressed with England forwards coach Steve Borthwick on the Lions tour, and that he learned a huge amount from them. The Munster and Ireland back-row credits Borthwick hugely for England’s recent success.
Speaking to Luke Fitzgerald and Will Slattery on The Left Wing, O’Mahony also reckons the English players, particularly the Saracens lads are a little be ahead of the game at the moment, by the way they train and going about things.
“I’d have to second what Seanie said about Steve (Borthwick).” O’Mahony said.
“He was incredibly diligent, hard-working, very knowledgeable. You can see with the way the English pack has gone the last few years. Having worked with Steve now, they’ve got his stamp all over them. He impressed me a huge amount.”
“A lot of the English guys impressed me. Particularly Saracens guys. You know the guys are top of the European tree at the moment obviously. With England being so successful over the last few years you can see why. The guys are hungry to win and probably ahead of the game a little bit, the way they’re training and going about things. So ya I learned a huge amount from all of them”
Can the likes of O’Mahony use what they learned to try and dethrone England or Saracens this season? We’ll just have to wait and see.
