Paul Kimmage Says He Doesn’t Want To See CJ Stander Playing For Ireland

This is going to piss a lot of people off.
Sports journalist Paul Kimmage has hit out at the three-year residency rule which allows foreign-born players to play rugby for Ireland. Joe Schmidt has utilised the rule in recent years, calling up a number of players.
The likes of CJ Stander, Jared Payne and Richadt Strauss have all been called up to Irish squads in recent years, with Stander and Payne becoming regulars in the starting XV. Bundee Aki and Tyler Bleyendaal could also join the illustrious club when they become eligible later this year.
Speaking on The Last Word on Today FM, Kimmage said he doesn’t want to see CJ Stander playing for Ireland as he is depriving someone who is born and raised in Ireland from playing in that position.
“I don’t want to see him playing for Ireland. I don’t want to see it, ” he told The Last Word on Today FM.
“I totally agree that he has fronted up for Munster and his buying into the whole Ireland thing but he is still depriving someone who is born and raised here of playing in that position and I think that should be the bottom line.”
