Odds Slashed For England Candidate After Flurry Of Bets

Former Australia and Japan coach Eddie Jones has emerged as the clear favourite to replace Stuart Lancaster as England boss tonight.

Bookmakers across the board have slashed the odds on Jones taking the helm after a number of significant bets were received. The Australian is now 1/3 from 7/1 with some bookies, with Jake White (11/4) and Nick Mallett (12/1) next in line.

Jones was in charge of the Wallabies when they reached the 2003 World Cup final and recently led Japan to their most successful ever tournament, including a historic win of South Africa at the 2015 showpiece.

He also worked alongside White during South Africa’s triumphant World Cup campaign in 2007.

Jones has taken up a job with South African Super Rugby side the Stormers since the World Cup but there are reports he will be able to quit to take on the England role if offered the job.

The RFU’s hunt for a new man began following an in-depth review of their disastrous tournament on home soil which resulted in Lancaster departing his role after four years.
