Northampton Saints could be facing an investigation into an allegation of fielding a weakened team against Leinster on Saturday evening.

The English Premiership side rested a number of first choice players for the trip to Dublin, including a number of high-profile stars such as Tom Wood, Courtney Lawes, Louis Picamoles and Luther Burrell.

European Professional Club Rugby (EPCR), the organising body of the European Champions Cup, will decide on Monday whether to proceed with an investigation or not into the allegation, according to the BBC.

The Saints were demolished 60-13 by Leinster in Dublin and are already being investigated over their handling of George North’s head injury during their Aviva Premiership clash with the Leicester Tigers.

The Irish side scored nine tries as they inflicted a record European defeat on Jim Mallinder’s side.
