Nigel Owens Reveals Why He Wore Batman Boots Last Night

The hero we deserve.

Nigel Owens is widely regarded as the best referee in the world but the Welshman was on touchline duty last night for Ireland’s game with Australia. Owens, who refereed the Connacht and Cardiff Blues PRO12 game on Friday, was called in as a last minute replacement for the game at the Aviva.

A few eagle-eyed fans spotted Owens last night wearing some very special custom made boots and he has now revealed where they came from and the special laces he had to accompany the boots.

The Batman boots are just the ones I got given to wear for the Champions Cup final last year by Under Armour. The laces I wore on them yesterday are for the Sport For All campaign by Stonewall.

I usually wear other boots for international duty, by Under Armour, but got called in last minute to do [last night’s] game due to illness to the assistant referee, as I was in Galway Friday night.
