Rory Scannell has been called up to the Irish squad along with Ulster’s Stuart Olding.
The duo have been called up as cover for the injured pair of Johnny Sexton and Robbie Henshaw. Sexton injured his hamstring early in the first half, being replaced by Ulster’s Paddy Jackson while Henshaw was stretchered off as a result of a controversial hit by Sam Cane.
While the Munster centre is unlikely to get a spot in the squad for the Australia game, he will gain some much needed experience with the national side and gain a feel for working under Joe Schmidt.
At just 22 years of age, he’s got the potential to be a serious talent for both club and country going forward. Watch this space.
