It just keeps getting better.
Ireland’s Rugby World Cup 2023 bid received a massive boost this afternoon after British Prime Minister Theresa May gave Ireland her backing, as they bid to win the rights to host rugby’s showpiece event.
The Ireland bid team, which included Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and Brian O’Driscoll, were in London today to give their final presentation to World Rugby along with France and South Africa.
Varadakar and O’Driscoll visited 10 Downing Street following the presentation, with the Taoiseach revealing that May has personally written to World Rugby, stating the UK fully supports Ireland’s bid.
This could prove to be crucial given the question marks still surrounding Brexit. A decision on who will win the rights to host the tournament will be made on November 15.
