England & Harlequins star Mike Brown has admitted he is ‘gutted’ at missing out on this summer’s British & Irish Lions tour.
The talented fullback has been ever present in Eddie Jones’ England side since the Australian took over, starring in their 18-game unbeaten streak, in which he started 17 of those games.
Brown won two Six Nations titles in that time, including a Grand Slam and played a major role in England’s 3-0 whitewash of the Wallabies in Australia. Lions head coach Warren Gatland however chose to go with Leigh Halfpenny and Jared Payne to cover the fullback berth along with Scotland star Stuart Hogg. Liam Williams is also an option in the 15 jersey for Gatland.
The Harlequins man now plans on taking his frustrations out on Argentina this summer with England. Speaking to The Rugby Paper, Brown pulled no punches in a very honest interview.
“I didn’t take it well. I was really gutted. I feel I’ve played really well from 2015 onwards so it was really disappointing not to get the call, but life goes on and you can’t let one man’s decision define you.” an angry Mike Brown told The Rugby Paper
“It’s really disappointing for guys like myself, James Haskell and Dylan Hartley because we probably won’t get another opportunity. I’ve had no feedback about being on standby either, which is also disappointing, so I’m not going to keep up false hopes. Instead I’ll reset my goals and concentrate fully on England and the excitement of going on a tough Argentina tour,”
