Leinster’s trip to South Africa has once again hit a snag.

Last week captain Isa Nacewa and scrumhalf Jamison Gibson-Park were refused entry to South Africa and forced to fly home in order to obtain a visa, and now Cian Healy has been thrown off a flight to Cape Town.

Ruaidhri O’Connor in The Irish Independent has revealed that Healy was reviewing Saturday’s game on his laptop while on board a flight with the rest of the Leinster team from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town, after passenger’s were told to stop using electronic equipment.

To the shock of Healy and the rest of the Leinster team, a South African Express cabin crew asked that the plane be turned around, with Healy then thrown off the flight and told to return to the terminal.

Police did not get involved and Healy apologised and booked the next available flight. He has since arrived and linked back up with the squad.

A statement from Leinster Rugby confirmed the incident.

“Leinster Rugby can confirm that Cian Healy was asked to leave yesterday afternoon’s flight from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town,” it read.

“The issue related to a misunderstanding around the use of a laptop during the approach to take off.

“Cian disembarked the plane and took the next available flight to Cape Town with the same airline.

“Cian apologised sincerely to all concerned at the time for any inconvenience caused.

“He re-joined the squad last night in Cape Town and trained today in Bishop’s College.”
