Toulon fullback Leigh Halfpenny is apparently on the verge of a return to Welsh regional rugby this summer in order to keep his British and Irish Lions aspirations alive.
Halfpenny will be ineligible for selection for the Lions tour of New Zealand next summer if his Toulon side make the Top 14 playoffs next season as club president Mourad Boudjellal has stated that he would not allow his prized goal-kicker to be released.
The WRU recently increased their National Dual Contract spending power to £500,000 and reportedly have lined up Halfpenny as a prime target ahead of next season. Which region Halfpenny will end up in remains to be seen.
