Leicester Tigers Line Up England Star To Replace Owen Williams

It was confirmed earlier today that Owen Williams is set to follow Richard Cockerill out the door at Leicester.

The Welsh playmaker has been in fine form this season, slotting a memorable last minute penalty in the Champions Cup last month to snatch victory over Munster. His performances haven’t gone unnoticed with Welsh fans calling for him to be selected for the Six Nations this year.

Cardiff Blues were said to be interested in bringing him back to Wales, but with no concrete offer made, it’s now been confirmed that Williams will join Premiership rivals Gloucester in a big money move that will see him earn a reported £400,000 a year.

Leicester still have Freddie Burns to slot in at ten but apparently have lined up a huge replacement for Williams. According to The Telegraph, the Premiership side are interested in signing England international George Ford from Bath from under Sale Shark’s noses.

Sale have made it known they are interested in bringing the playmaker in, with Bath willing to let him go once the last year of his contract is bought out. Tigers head coach Aaron Mauger however, has confirmed he is definitely someone they may look at bringing in.

If George is available, he is potentially someone we could look at.

We haven’t spoken to him but he is a quality player. We want competition for places right across the board.

We don’t want Freddie Burns sitting there on the throne thinking he has got it all sewn up.

Not a bad replacement for Williams if Leicester can get a deal over the line.
