Joey Carbery On The One Key Piece Of Advice ROG Gave Him When Playing At 10

Learning from the master.

Joey Carbery was lucky enough this summer to spend a week with Ronan O’Gara ahead of their summer series game against USA.

The former Munster and Ireland legend spent a week coaching the players are being personally invited by head coach Joe Schmidt, with young Joey Carbery someone who no doubt benefitted hugely from the experience.

Carberry was asked about the advice O’Gara gave him at a Canterbury event yesterday, and apparently it all comes down to having a cool head.

He (O’Gara) really emphasised trying to keep a cool head in the thick of it all. The phenomenon of playing in a game and there’s so much going on, that’s the key thing to do when you’re at 10 because you’ve got to maintain and control. He’s really embedded that in me.
He’s just a good guy and you can chat to him. I feel like I can always give him a text.

O’Gara also passed on some tips when it came to one of his most famous skill sets.

I learned how to spiral! So, learning from the best.
He’s been through so much and he’s seen so much. It was just great to even sit and chat with him over coffee and he’d give you a few stories; he’s fairly in on stuff.

Canterbury, official kit supplier to the Ireland Rugby team, has unveiled the new Ireland Rugby jersey for the 2017/18 season. The kit features ground-breaking technologies designed to give players an in-game competitive advantage and is available to buy now from Canterbury.com and sports retailers nationwide.

Speaking of Canterbury…

We’ve teamed up with lads over at Canterbury to bring you a new series set to premiere across our channels next week. Rugby Fit will see an amateur team from Ireland and England put through the paces in a gruelling fitness programme, before taking each other on to see who can come out on top. Both teams will have current Ireland and England internationals managing them, in what promised to be an must watch series. Keep an eye out next week for part 1.
