It Turns Out The Lions Broke A Rule In The Closing Minutes Of The Final Test

Whoops.

All the talk surrounding the final moments of the 3rd Test seems to be focused on Roman Poite’s decision to change his mind and award a scrum instead of a penalty to the All Blacks. But it turns out the Lions broke a rule in the closing stages of the game.

Alun Wyn Jones was forced off the pitch for a HIA, resulting in a yellow card for Jerome Kaino, but it turns out the Lions broke a rule in letting him return to the fold 16 minutes after he came off.

Jones came back on as another man, captain Sam Warburton was forced to undergo a HIA, but the rules state a player can only come on immediately after the 10 minutes is up, meaning Jones wasn’t allowed back on when he did. Whether or not an investigation will be carried out remains to be seen.
