Israel Folau Goes Against Wallabies With Controversial Tweet

Israel Folau has caused a bit of a stir on social media.

The Wallabies fullback sent a tweet out stating that he does not condone same sex marriage, just one day after the Wallabies pledged their support for the yes vote in the Australian postal survey.

The 28-year-old Waratahs star is a devout Christian, who grew up as a Mormon before leaving to join a smaller church in 2011. In his tweet on Wednesday afternoon he said he loves and respects everyone for their opinions but that he would not support same-sex marriage.

Other Wallabies have reiterated their support for same-sex marriage on social media, including LGBTI advocate David Pocock, who has announced in the past he and his long-term partner Emma Palandri will not wed until gay marriage is legalised in Australia.

Folau’s declaration of his stance came a day after the Wallabies, for whom he has played 58 Tests, publicly backed the Yes camp by revealing a rainbow wallaby logo.

The Wallabies changed their logos on social media on Tuesday to show their support for same-sex marriage.
