Irish Rugby Hit With Huge Injury Blow

Pat Lam must be thinking what has he done to deserve such bad luck.

Ultan Dillane is the latest casualty out west with the talented second-row having done damage to his ankle ligaments. Pat Lam was speaking to reporters this afternoon and revealed that Dillane is now looking at up to six weeks on the sidelines as a result of the problem.

This also means Dillane will probably miss Ireland’s opening two rounds of the Six Nations against Italy and Scotland. No disrespect to Dillane, Scotland or Italy but these are the game that the 23 year-old would have more than likely been giving a chance to start in.

Schmidt will likely go with a combination consisting of the likes of Iain Henderson, Donnacha Ryan and Devin Toner against more difficult opposition like England, Wales and France with the opening two rounds now going to be a missed opportunity for a young star like Dillane.

It also leaves Pat Lam with yet another injury to add to his already long list and without one of his top stars for the rest of the Champions Cup pool stages.
