Ireland U-20s hooker Tadgh McElroy will not play in the Junior World Cup amid fears he will jump ship and declare for England.
McElroy has been offered a contract by Connacht according to The42, but is holding out for a move to England with European champions Saracens. The Junior World Cup starts next week in Georgia, but the Dundalk native was not on the plane with the Ireland squad who flew out yesterday.
19-year-old McElroy was named in Ireland’s 28-man squad last week but was removed just before they departed for Georgia, as a move to Saracens would mean that he will no longer be part of the IRFU system next season.
McElroy has represented Ireland throughout age-grade level but is eligible to play for England.
