The Six Nations is just nine weeks ago but injury problems are already starting to arise for the nations.
Billy Vunipola limped off this past weekend for England against Argentina and looks set to miss the tournament with Ireland today dealt a blow of their own with the news that Jared Payne has been ruled out for three months.
The Ulsterman is ruled out as a result of a kidney injury which he sustained last weekend during the final game of Ireland’s November international series against Michael Cheika’s Australia.
Three months out means Payne will likely miss the first three games of Ireland’s Six Nations campaign – away to Scotland and Italy and home to France. Joe Schmidt’s side play Wales on March 10th where Payne could return.
His injury also comes as a crucial blow to Ulster as the Champions Cup approaches.
This does however give Schmidt a chance to try out the Leinster pair of Garry Ringrose and Robbie Henshaw together on the international scene.
