Interesting Julian Savea Comments That Suggest His Future May Not Be In New Zealand
Park the bus.
Julian Savea being left out of Steve Hansen’s All Blacks squad for the upcoming Rugby Championship has cast doubt on the wingers future in New Zealand. The powerful winger, who has racked up an astonishing 46 tries in 54 Tests, has been in and out of Hansen’s squad since the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
As England boss Eddie Jones recently pointed out, the All Blacks may be may be light in a few departments for the first time in many years, but the wing is not an area of concern. The wings that have been selected – Waisake Naholo, Israel Dagg, Nehe Milner-Skudder and Rieko Ioane – form a devastating blend of athleticism and skill.
Savea is now 27, which is interestingly the age Joe Rokocoko played his final game for the All Blacks. Another fearsome winger who racked up 46 tries in 68 Tests. for New Zealand. Rokocoko cashed in on a move to France while his stock was still high, Savea will likely follow.
During the Lions tour I attended an event in aid of Ories Rugby in Wellington- home to Julian and his brother Ardie. Both players took part in a Q&A following dinner, with a member posing a question to both players as to where they see themselves in the next few years.
23 year-old Ardie said he hoped he would be still playing for the All Blacks.
Julian straight away said probably in Europe.
