Inspirational Gesture Of Kindness From The Fiji Sevens Team

When an in-flight medical emergency broke out on Fiji’s flight to Brisbane, what they did next was an incredible act of selflessness.

The world No.1’s were en route to the World Sevens Series curtain-raiser in Dubai when they soon found themselves at the centre of a mid-flight emergency.

They were travelling on Virgin Australia’s flight from Nadi to Brisbane when one a woman fell seriously ill, passenger Ryan Fee said.

As the severity of the situation became more apparent, Virgin staff rushed to the aid of the woman, who was falling in and out of consciousness, as did the Fiji team doctor, physiotherapist and coach.

While staff focused all their attention on the woman, the Fijians did something quite incredible.

Members of the team noticed that air hostesses were struggling to juggle the demands of a serious medical emergency and a lunch service, which was already underway before the gravity of the situation became apparent.

In a bid to alleviate the pressure, the players offered to help out in serving lunch to passengers.

“When the air hostesses were all flustered the team got up to finish serving food and then assisted with the clean up of trays for the entire plane,” Fee told

After everyone was finished, the team once again came in to action and went around collecting empty trays and rubbish.

The daughter of the woman who fill ill, Ashneel Lal, later posted on Facebook: “God bless all the doctors, paramedics, Virgin staff and the Fiji Rugby team for helping mum out. Damn what a scary way to end a very nice trip to Fiji. A flight to remember indeed. Mum is doing fine now and she is at home resting up.”

Fair play Fiji.
