Leinster secured a bonus-point win yesterday in the Champions Cup but face a much more difficult task next week when they travel to France to take on Top 14 big spenders, Montpellier.

Leinster scored five tries and looked very impressive, with Joey Carberry stepping up at outhalf in place of the injured Johnny Sexton, proving he has what it take to play at the highest level of club rugby.

Speaking after the game, Leo Cullen praised his side, but is wary of tougher opposition.

“It’s nice to score a few tries from the maul because it’s an area we would have focused on very heavily,” said Cullen.

“For the pool that we have with Castres, Montpellier, Northampton, their big, strong, physical packs that we’re going to come up against so the driving maul will be an important facet of our game.

“When you come to these big games [the maul] is as good as an attacking platform as there is in the game, so it’s an important component. Dev [Toner] is a good caller, it helps when you’re a foot taller, but yeah I thought it was a good, controlled performance from him.”

When asked if Sexton will return next week ahead of the crucial clash with Montpellier next week, Cullen had this to say,

“Johnny did a good bit of rehab today and started his introduction to running again so we have the advantage of an eight-day turnaround so we’ll see.

“It’s a low grade one injury I’d say, if anything.”

Positive news for Leinster fans.
