Injury Scare For Warren Gatland As Lions Star Set To Undergo Scan

Warren Gatland may have to call up a replacement for Dan Biggar after the Ospreys star damaged his ankle in the loss to Scarlets on Saturday.

The Wales and Ospreys playmaker started with a bandaged foot and went off early in the second half. Ospreys go to Thomond Park to take on Munster in the PRO12 semi-final on 20 May and the Lions fly to New Zealand nine days later.

“We will assess him over the next 24 hours, he is just adding to our list of casualties,” said Ospreys head coach Steve Tandy on Saturday.
“It was something to do with his ankle, we have just got to dig into it in a bit more detail.”

Biggar was one of 12 Wales players named in Warren Gatland’s tour party, with the Lions boss making his first reserve call-up yesterday in the wake of Ben Youngs withdrawal. The England scrumhalf withdrew for family reasons with Scotland captain Greg Laidlaw taking his place.

Should Biggar be forced to withdraw the likes of Finn Russell and George Ford would be in contention for a call-up.
