Here’s How Much Each Lions Player Stands To Pocket This Summer
Not bad at all.
Being picked for the British & Irish is the pinnacle of a players career. To be picked to start for your country is a fantastic achievement, to be picked as one of the very best from a pool of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales is incredible.
Not only do you get to test yourself against the very best the southern hemisphere has to offer, you also get an all expenses paid trip, some pretty nifty gear and memories and friends that will last a lifetime. Oh and the pay isn’t all that bad either.
According to Gavin Mairs of The Telegraph, in 2017 the tour fee is skyrocketing from £20,000 in 2013 to £70,000 this summer. On top of that, should the Lions win the Test series against New Zealand- they will also receive a bonus of £10,000.
The total fee for the 37-man squad amounts to £2.59 million. Should they win at least two games, the players’ total earnings will rise to £2.96 million. Approximately 150 players were sent a commercial contracts last week ahead of the squad announcement on April 19th.
