Harlequins Star Considering Early Retirement

Harlequins playmaker Nick Evans is considering retiring at the end of the season.

The 36 year-old New Zealand playmaker has another year to run on his contract after this season, but is considering cutting it short by hanging up his boots at the end of the season.

Evans has suffered with a number of injuries this campaign, and while he made his 150th appearance for the club in yesterday’s loss to Saracens at Wembley, he has managed just 565 minutes in 12 appearances this season.

Speaking to The Rugby Paper, Evans admitted that retirement is definitely an option.

“It’s been a frustrating campaign and it (retirement) is an option. I’ve got one more year but when you get to my age you have to weigh up lots of things.”
“After the last couple of years, I have to ask whether I’m still living up to me expectations on what I can provide for the club. If I still believe I can, I’ll keep going.”
“I’ve had 16 good years at the top and feel I’ve still got a lot to offer, but I’ve got a few decisions to make, which I’ll do at the end of the season.”
