Exclusive: Will Greenwood On The Premiership Side That Has Made The Biggest Signing This Season

The new season is almost upon us.

The 2017/18 Aviva Premiership season kicks off tomorrow and ahead of the opening round of games, we caught up with Will Greenwood to preview the campaign.

Once again this season, a lot of clubs have been busy in the transfer market. Sale Sharks have brought in the likes of Faf de Klerk and James O’Connor, while Leicester Tigers have brought in England internationals Jonny May and George Ford.

Premiership new boys London Irish have perhaps been the busiest of all, with their biggest signing being former Clermont winger Napolioni Nalaga.

Nalaga, 31, scored 105 tries in 165 games for Clermont playing in the 2013 European Cup final against Toulon, before joining Lyon last season. Nalaga was also the leading try-scorer in the French Top 14 on three occasions

“There’s some amazing signings going on.” Greenwood told us.
“You have to look at somebody like Nepoli Nalaga, signing for London Irish. You’re getting stars we’re used to seeing going across the fence.”

While he’s not necessarily a new signing, Greenwood reckons Owen Farrell signing an unprecedented new 5-year deal with Saracens is perhaps the biggest signing of all.

“Perhaps the biggest signing of all is Owen Farrell, who’s committed to a 5-year deal with Saracens” Greenwood added.
“Never mind who we’re bringing in, the ability to keep their own players now with salary caps, with marquee players. Sometime English supporters have been frustrated when they say big names going to France.
