England-Australia World Cup ‘Spy Camera’ Claims Dismissed

World Rugby have denied reports that Australia and England have been caught up in a spying row ahead of their crucial World Cup match on Saturday night.

A report on the front page of The Sun on Monday claimed that Australia recently caught someone taking photographs from the bushes during a training session at Bath University and that World Rugby was investigating the incident.

It was suggested that the ‘spy’ was chased away by security guards and that Australian team officials were furious amid fears that England could be gathering tactical knowledge for the Pool A showdown at Twickenham.

The intruder was said to have had hi-tech equipment on a tripod as he viewed Australia’s training pitch from an elevated spot which gave him a view over hessian-covered fences.

However, both the Rugby Football Union and World Rugby have said that there is no truth in this story.

They say: “No complaint has been made and no team is being investigated.”
