Eddie Jones Reveals What England Need To Do In This Year’s Six Nations

Eddie Jones says his side must be daring if they are to claim back-to-back Grand Slam titles in this year’s RBS 6 Nations.

Jones remains unbeaten since taking over from Stuart Lancaster after a disastrous Rugby World Cup as the home nation. England registered 13 straight wins in 2016 and a victory against France in February would see the team stretch their run to a record 15 matches.

The Australian however is well aware of the challenge that awaits his side on Saturday, February 4th. Jones believes it’s not about defending their title, it’s about going out and winning it again.

To do this his side must be daring.

“You don’t defend a Grand Slam, you have to win it again,” said Jones.

“That is why we have to be absolutely daring going into this Six Nations.

“It is about courage to play a game really well, regardless of the situation.”

Jones also stated his side cannot afford to become complacent and used Leicester City as an example.

“If you look back through 2016, the teams that won the most in England – in terms of complex team sports – were Leicester City and us,” he added.

“In our first meeting, we went through the example of what has happened to Leicester City and asked: ‘do we want that to happen to us?’.

“We’ve come up with some strategies that we believe will help us to overcome any complacency and any tendency to be comfortable.”

If Jones’ men can clinch a Grand Slam in 2017, they’ll be only the third English side in history to accomplish the feat of winning back-to-back titles. The two previous sides that achieved it were in 1924 and 1992.
