Eddie Jones Has A Cheeky Dig At Toulon & Their Owner Mourad Boudjellal
It was revealed yesterday that Saracens and England winger Chris Ashton would be joining Toulon next season.
The winger has been a hot topic of conversation in recent seasons due to his poor disciplinary record. He is currently serving a lengthy ban for a biting incident against Northampton and served another lengthy ban last season for an eye-gouge on Ulster’s Luke Marshall.
Before that ban last season, Ashton was selected in Eddie Jones’ first England squad for the 2016 RBS Six Nations. Since then however, he has been unable to force his way back into the squad, famously refusing to play for the Saxons last summer.
His move to France now seems to have closed the door on England due to their selection policy about picking players who are plying their trade outside of England. When asked about Ashton however, head coach Eddie Jones didn’t close the door on Ashton, but did reiterate their stance on selecting overseas players.
Jones also had cheeky dig at Toulon and owner Mourad Boudjellal.
“As we’ve seen with Toulon people announce that they’re going there but sometimes don’t end up going there.
You know a lot can happen in those comic books.
If he does go though then he’s made himself unavailable for England.”
Brilliant from the England boss.
