‘Donnacha Ryan Wants To Stay And Play For Munster’

Those are the words of former Munster and Ireland second-row Mick Galwey.
Donnacha Ryan’s deal with Munster expires at the end of the season, with the lock set to move to French side Racing 92 due to the IRFU refusing to offer him a centralised contract.
Their reasoning is his age, despite Ryan being just a few days older than Jamie Heaslip, who was recently given a three-year deal by the IRFU. Ryan only wanted a two-year deal, which Munster have offered him, but they cannot match Racing’s offer without the IRFU’s help.
Mick Galwey spoke to The42 this afternoon to launch Heineken Rugby Club’s ‘The Stadium Shuffle,’ and he says he knows for a fact that Ryan does not want to leave Munster, and hopes a resolution can be found in the coming weeks.
“There’s part of me that’s hoping he’s not gone yet and we’re all hoping that and if Munster were to win tomorrow [v Saracens] and get into a European final, hopefully win it and Donnacha has a big impact…I hope sense prevails and there might be an option there to get him back.” Galwey told The42
“At the end of the day he wants to stay here and play for Munster and Ireland,” the 50-year-old continued.
“Donnacha doesn’t want to go and that’s the bottom line. Donnacha doesn’t want to go and I know that for a fact and hopefully with a few good performances people might change their mind.”
Ryan will come up against British & Irish Lions duo Maro Itoje and George Kruis tomorrow. Let’s hope he can show the IRFU how big a mistake they have made with another mammoth performance.
