Brian O’Driscoll Reveals Three Young Irish Stars He’d Like To See In The Six Nations Squad
Brian O’Driscoll has identified three young Irish stars he would like to see selected in Ireland’s Six Nations squad.
Joe Schmidt names his Six Nation’s squad on Sunday following the final round of Champions Cup pool games. Ireland head into the tournament this year, full of confidence, after a hugely successful November series.
Competition for places this year couldn’t be higher, with Schmidt boasting close to a full clean bill of health. A number of tough decisions will have to be made, especially with the Irish province’s firing in Europe, and a number of players standing out as a result.
Former Ireland captain Brian O’Driscoll has been particularly impressed with three such players that he reckons deserve call-ups this year.
Speaking on BT Sport’s Rugby Tonight show, the former Ireland and centre reckons Niall Scannell, Stuart McCloskey and Jack Conan should be seriously considered by Schmidt.
“There are a few guys,” O’Driscoll said.
“Especially with the injury to Sean Cronin and the way Munster are playing in the front row, you have Niall Scannell, who hasn’t been capped yet. I imagine that he’ll be in the mix. Jack Conan had a huge performance for Leinster last week. The back row is hugely competitive, he is probably sixth or seventh down the pecking order. With a couple of injuries he could easily find his way in.
“And up north, I think Stuart McCloskey has really put his hand up again. He didn’t feature in the summer tour or in November but he has put in some really big performances and Joe Schmidt has to sit up and pay attention to that.”
Do you agree with O’Driscoll? Are there any other names not mentioned that should be considered?
