Brian O’Driscoll On The Lions Roommate That Surprised Him The Most

“Once I got over the initial questions as to whether I knew Bono or not….we actually got on really well!”

Brian O’Driscoll recently spoke to to the Lions on social media with thanks to Land Rover, to discuss some of the partnership and friendships that he discovered while touring as a Lion.

The former Lions captain cites his partnership with Jamie Roberts in 2009 as the best pairing he’s ever been part of on a Lions tour.

“I struck up a good partnership in 2009 with Jamie Roberts. I think we worked well in tandem, I think we were a good foil for one another.”
“He gave us great go forward, and held down the defence and created space out wide. We clicked from early on at training.”

On the Lions roommate that surprise him most, O’Driscoll reveals it was none other than scrumhalf Mike Phillips.

You have other strange ones where you get on well with people you don’t envisage.”
“You have pre-conceived notions about what people are like.”
“Mike Phillips was one of the narkiest players i’ve ever played against and he was a pain in the arse, before I became a teammate of his.”
“He was my roomie in 2009 and once I got over the initial questions as to whether I knew Bono or not….we actually got on really well and he was a laugh, and he was great company.”
“That’s what you get from Lions Tours. You get to see the real people and like I said, get rid of those pre-conceived notions.”

Who do you think will strike up a good partnership in 2017?
