This is an interesting one.

Former Wales and Lions prop Adam Jones has signed a new contract with Harlequins that will see him combine his playing role with coaching duties.

Jones, who has long been regarded as one of the finest scrummagers the game as ever seen, joined the English Premiership side at beginning of the 2015/16 campaign and is now set to work as an assistant to forwards coach Graham Rowntree in a role in which he will combine with playing for the club.

In a statement, the club said:

“Harlequins is delighted to confirm today, Thursday 22nd December, that British and Irish Lion, and four time Six Nations winner Adam Jones has extended his time with Harlequins having signed a contract extension, which combines a dual role as a player.”

The front row has admitted that he has always wanted to go into coaching and that he is ‘delighted’ to be given the opportunity by the English side.

“I’m delighted to have re-signed with Harlequins and combine my time with the role of Assistant Forwards Coach.

“Since moving to this club, I have loved my time. When John [Kingston] and Graham [Rowntree] suggested the joint role, I jumped at the chance.

“Coaching is a route I have always wanted to go down so this is an opportunity for me to work with two of the best.

“I’d be stupid to not take this chance to develop and up-skill myself with a forward pack that is only going to get better. I’m looking forward to the rest of the season and doing my best to ensure we have a great year.”

Jones won four Six Nations titles with Wales and has three Grand Slam titles to his name, winning 95 caps for his country.
